Theme:  A Gathering for the Recently Deceased

The Event

For our first big party post lockdown, Matt and I designed to go big and how better to do that then to look to the master of going big, Tim Burton. Our Beetlejuice themed gathering boasted several characters from the waiting room in hell, a miniature town ala the one in the film, and a giant Sand Worm that hung from the rafters of our living room.

Construction

To construct the various characters from the film, Matt and I watched it several times, taking notes on color and form. From there, we mapped out possible ways to bring these characters to life. For example, the Sand Worm is constructed of chicken wire, paper mache, and a dog training tunnel. For the “Sawed in Half Woman,” we tracked down a mannequin online and broke it down into posable pieces, using fishing line to rig the joints. Unfortunately, I did not take many photos of the construction phase of this year.
